Many elaborate plans for the urban environment of Minneapolis have been dreamt up over the last century: religious temples, grand boulevards, retail palaces. Many never came to fruition, but at least a few were partially constructed before the money ran out or outside forces intervened. We'll examine the remnants of some of these projects as they exist today, many of them hiding in plain sight. We'll start at the Ivy Tower...once intended to be a Christian Science temple; now part of the Hotel Ivy.
This tour will be led by artist and writer Andy Sturdevant, author of two nonfiction books about Minneapolis. This tour lasts two hours and will walk about 2.5 miles.
