Scout Workshop Instameet

Mark your calendars -- we have an instameet coming up!

We're excited to partner with Scout Workshop, a new coworking community on Lyndale Avenue that has brought new life to a building with a very unique past.

Due to space restrictions this event is limited to 30 participants, so make sure to get your (free) tickets here before they're gone!  To reduce your FOMO we will be streaming the presentation component of this tour live on Facebook as well :)

Meet us at 6:00 for a presentation given by Scout co-creators Heather Rose-Dunning and Kim Batcheller followed by a guided tour and beer and popcorn at LynLake Brewery.

Share your images on Instagram with the hashtags #PreserveMPLS, #PMatScout, and #ScoutWorkshop so that we can find them :)

See you June 14! Read on for more information about the history of Scout Workshop and their home, the former Gaytee Buildings.

------

In 1918 Thomas Gaytee moved to Minneapolis from New York City, where he had studied stained glass design under Louis Comfort Tiffany. He established his own firm here that specialized in religious designs and soon landed a major contract with the Basilica of St. Mary. He went on to work as head of the studio until he died in 1936. Over the years the company produced many designs that can still be seen across the city (and the country) today, including works at the Basilica and Central Lutheran Church at 333 South 12th Street.

After operations moved from Lyndale Avenue to a new home on Central Avenue in the 1970s, former employee and stained glass designer John Salisbury purchased the properties to use as a storage facility for his many collections including Tiffany lamps, cars, and model ships.

Heather Rose-Dunning and Kim Batcheller acquired the properties from John in 2017 and began renovations to celebrate the buildings' stories and make room for new ones. Earlier this year they opened Scout Workshop, a new community where design thinkers and creative folks can explore new ideas, do great work, be inspired and connected, and tap into physical and intellectual resources...all while surrounded with other amazing humans who are yearning for the same sorts of things.
